FAR EAST CRISIS
JAPANESE AND CHINESE TROOPS MASSING AT JEHOL NO HOPE OF SETTLEMENT Rec. Feb. 7. Shanghai, February 7. The stage is rapidly heing prepared for what Japan confidently hopes will be the last phase in the conquest of Manchuria. The activities of the whole military machine are being directed to Jehol. The Japanese spokesman stated that all hopes for a peaeeful settlement of the issue have been abandoned since the Chinese are massing their troops in Jehol. Foreign reports state that approximately 70,000 Japanese regulars are concentrated at various points between Mukden and Chinchow, apart from those stationed at Shanhaikuan. The same souree estimates that 100,000 Chinese troops are at Jehol. while 47,000 regulars are in the. Shanhaikuan area.
