DISAPPOINTING ENQUIRY AT CLAUDELANDS RAM FAIR

Hamilton, Monday. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, of Hamilton, report on their annual Claudelands ram fair held from Thursday to Saturday of last week as follows: — The numbers of all classes of rams catalogued fell short of last year's offering, but nevertheless proved more than sufficient for the buyers' requirements. Each day, although the attendance was representative it was small, and interest except in outstanding quality rams, of which the entry contained small scattered lots, was laeking. Generally the sale was disappointing, and did not come anywhere near up to expectations, a large portion of the entry being passed in. Two stud Southdown rams offered on account of Mr. C. J. Hawkin, of Mokoia, were bought by Mr. D. E. Finlayson at 12 £ and 13gns. Two offered on account of Mrs. B. H. Slaek of Levin, were bought by Mr. P. McNaughton, and Mr. R. C. Gray, both of Morrinsville, for 14! to 15gns respectively. Good quality stud rams made from 5 to lOgns. Medium, 3 to 5gns; inferior, 2 to 2!gns; best quality flock Southdown rams, 2! to 4 gns; the bulk of the offering comprising medium sorts of rams made from 1 to 2Jgns; inferior, do, up to Ign; a pen of Border Leicester made l!gns; best sorts of Romney Flock rams 3!gns to 4gns medium quality do, 2 to 3gns; others up to llgns.
