AS CANADA SEES IT
BEST MONETARY SYSTEM CANNOT SAYE US. Regina Saturday. It is almost pitiable to see the trust reposed by certain persons in the power of a bit of change here and there to carry the human family out of its present troubles. Thousands of Canadians believe that if we were to do something about our money or about our banking system, a new day of prosperity would be at hand. Others believe th'at if Government costs were reduced the burden for the taxpayer would be lighter and the problem would be largely solved. At the best, these moves can only malce a minor contribution. The best monetary system in the world might not save us from the effects of a wrong fiseal policy. The cost of Government, while important, is only a grain of sand on the seashore compared with the costs run up in three or four years of the Great War. The human race cannot avoid the eonsequences of its own follies. If it persists in malcing a fool of itself it cannot devise methods and systems to escape the lash that will inevitably fall upon its back. This is not preaching. It is just putting dowi\a few facts (says the Regina Leader-Post).
