CHILD HURT

THROWN FROM HORSE As a result of too suddenly reining in a horse which she was riding, a nine year old child, Bertha Reid, daughter of Mr. C. W. Reid, of Waioeka, yesterday suffered severe and painful injuries. Accompanied by an adult friend of the family, the child was enjoying a ride, but apparently became frightened and drew sh&rply on the reins. The horse stopped dead throwing its small rider over its 'liead and stepping on her. 'Owing to the fact that the Waioeka River was in high flood, it was not ; possible to take the nearest route for assistance. Mr. Reid was compelled to carry the child some distance around the hill to Mr. Hennessey's; property at Woodlands, where Dr. Budd was summoned and medical assistance given.
