DRIVER'S ORDEAL
found lying- injured in wireckage of lorry Lying for several hours seriously injured and jammed in the wreckage of his lorry, an Opotiki resident, Mr. T. Mortensen, had a narrow escape from death yesterday when he was rescued at the foot of a 150ft cliff, j over which his machine had crashed. | Mr. Mortensen was engaged in carting cream on Graham's Road, Waiaua, when the lorry .apparently left the road and fell a distance of approximately 150 feet over a cliff on the roadside. The driver was alone and the acc'ldent passed unnoticed until several hours later when a passer-by observed the wreckage and clambered down the cliff face to rescue the injured man. Mr. Mortensen was suffering from a severely crushed chest and back injuries, and had been in acute piain throughout the tperiod. After considerable diffieulty he was raised ! to the top of the cliff 'and brought in 1 to hospital at Opotiki, where he at present lies in a serious. condition.
