GOVERNMENT WATCHING POSITION ON MARKETS

Wellington, Monday. Questioned concerning a cable in which Financial News was quoted as stating that considerable speculative dexxiands for New Zealand funds were reported as a result of tlxe passage of the Banking Indemnity Bill in the New Zealand House of Representatives, the Rt. Hon. J, G. Coates said that the Government's agent, the Bank of Ne.w Zealand, had made full investig'ations into the possihilities of speculative huying being undertaken. He said that the Government had the mattex* well in hand and there was no fear of anything of the. hatxire suggested by the London cable.
