ANOTHER STAGE The third letter sent by Crawford Smith, of Opotiki, one of the 36 school boys touring Australia, says"On January 22 we left for Ballarat, arriving there at 11 o'clock. We were given a reception at the council chambers. "In the afternoon we toured the city, which has a population of 42,- I 000 and is the largest inland town in Australia. We visited the botanical gardens and also the Eureka Stoclo ade, the scene of a fight between min"ers and police. When we returned to Melbourne we placed a wreath on the cenotaph. We then went through the city and were present at a tesi match. *"At 5.30 we left for Sydney and arrived at 12 on Wednesday and stayed at the Y.M.C.A. We then left for La Perouse where the. aboriginals gave exhibitions of boomerang throwing. That night we went to the pietures. "At Neweastle the mayor welcomed us heartily, and we were presented with leaflets. On Friday we went to the Broken Hill Proprietary steelworks, which afforded us great interest. The iron ore is exported from Broken Hill, South Australia. After an inspection of the works we were taken to the Works Hotel, where a spread was prepared for us."
