ONE MAN KILLED AND ANOTHER SERIOUSLY INJURED spark ignites gas

Sydney, January 24. Two miners at the Balmain Colliery were critically injured by an explosion of a gas pocket. David ICerr and H. Williams were boring rock with a hand drill whe.n it is presumed a spark from the hammer ignited the gas. Kerr, despite frightful burns, dragged himself some distance to telephone an engineer at the surface three thousand feet above. The cage descended and the men were sent .to hospital.. Williams died in hospital. Kerr is still in a very critical eondition.
