iSSUE IN DOUBT OPINIONS VARY REGARDING THE FINAL RESULTS cosgraye favoured
-By Telegraph — Copyrlght).
Rec. Jan. 24, 7.10 p.m. London, January 23. The Irish election issue is still uncertain. The parties are unable to guess how the small farmers will yote. The honours of the campaign belong to the Fianna, whose publicity organisation and strategy are described as superior to the Cosgraveites. Mr. de Valera, despite his disastrous record, has forced Mr. Cosgrave to stand on the defensiv© against charges of a secret agreement to surrendel' to England. The Centre Party is lilcely to attiact many farmers' votes. The Times Dublin correspondent emphasises that the election issue is doubtful but a straight vote may give Cosgrave a working majority, but proportional represe.ntation may produce a different result, although the odds are slightly in his favour. Counting will begin on Wednesday. It is expected that the result of four constituents will be known in the evening. The complete results will not be available until the. week-end.
