NEW NAPIER RISES FROM ASHES OF OLD TOWN. " An ex-Waihi resident now living in Napier, writing to a friend on th'e reinstatement of the town following the earthquake of just on two years ago, say;s: "The new ISTapier is going to be very beautiful. You woulu scarcely credit the work that has been don'e iri such! a short space of time. Some very fine buildings have gone up and the streets — the main ones — have all i>een widened. The Masonic Ho'tel is nearly fihished and will he a beautiful place. Another fine building, the Hotel Central, is in a strfiet which used to be practically a slum, and is now one of the best in the town. It has been widened and where poky little shops formerly stood there are now imposing buildings. The hotel is lovely. The whole town will he en fetq 'from January 26 to 28 and the Governor-General and the- Lady Bledisloe will be h'ere for the re-opening ; of the. new Napier, also Sir Charles Kingsford 'Smith, of flying fame."
