LONG CYCLING TOUR

TWO TRAINING COLLEGE ENTHUSIATS ENJOY A HOLIDAY. "We have had a perfeetly marvellous time and are absolutely thrilled with the., North Island," said Miss Win Weenick, who, with her companion, Miss Edith Moore, has just completed a cycle tour of the North Island, speaking to Mary Anne last week. These two happy people, clad in smart khalci outfits, arrived in Rotorua , last week on the last stages of a long cycling tour through' the island. Both girls are students at the Christchurch Training College and have spent five weeks on "Bucephalus" and "Beattitude," their two worthy bicycles, the former being Edith's and the latter Win's. The two friends set out from Wellington on December 11, taking the West Coast route, passing through Foxton, Turakina, Wanganui and Hawera. They made a stop at Inglewood and visited Mt. Egmont, reaehI ing a point not far from the sum-

mit. Leaving New Plymouth one evening, the girls cycled to Mt. Messenger and then took a little-known route through Okau and Ohura to Taumarunui. From there they were given a trip to National Park and they climbed Ruapehu. A visit to the Waitomo Caves was also paid. Continuing their journey, they ] passed through Hamilton to Bombay, i where they stayed a week at the StuI dents' Christian Movement Camp, and j from thence to Auckland, where a ' stay of two days was made. The longest trip to be made in one j day was the stretch from Auckland j to Hamilton on their way to Rotorua, j where they arrived last Friday. i As much as possible was crammed ' into the short while that they were j here, and everything of iocal interest • was sampled by the girls. The thrill ! of trout-fishing thoroughly captivated these youthful adventurers, especially Miss Win, who was fortunate in seeuring a very promising specimen of fish life. From Rotorua the cyclists continued their tour through Taupo -to Napier, where Miss Moore will stop at her home in Hawke's Bay and Miss Weenick intends to push on to Wellington via Wairarapa.
