FAREWELL GARDEN PARTY A farewell garden party was given by the parishioners of Waimana and Nukahou to the Rev. N. F. and Mrs. Benham, in the grounds of Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Mottram's residenee at Nukahou on Friday. In addition to the parishioners the girlt guides and boy scouts were represented. A pleasant afternoon was passed in games, croquet, clock golf, -tennis, quoits, etc., after which' Scout Paddy Clarke made a small presentation to Mr. Benham and Guide Ngaire Mitehell presented a bouquet to Mrs. Benham. Mr. Norman McDonald spoke on behalf of the parishioners and said how sorry they were to lose Mr. Benham, how they wished him good fortune in his new position and thanked him for the excellent work he had done in inaugurating the girl guide and boy scout movements in Waimana. Mr. Benham made a short speech in reply after which afternoon tea was served by the ladies. Shark Fishing at Ohiwa At Ohiwa, about nine miles from Opotiki, fishermen are having quite good sport according tc recent reports. In addition to a variety of smaller fish a number of sharks have been caught on hand lines in the deeper water. A Mr. Harrison, from Auckland, caught two sharks each five feet long while two other big fellows were hooked and drawn up beside the boat but lost again. These fish were canght with hand lines from a motor boat near the bar of the harbour. Old Residents' Loss Mr. and Mrs. Clifton J. Woods and . family of Waharoa, who lived in the Op-otiki district for many years had their home totally destroyed by fire on Friday last and lost everything.
