free labourers & unionists settle their dispute
TWO ARRESTS MADE
— By Telegmpn — Oopyrlght)
Masterton, Sunday. Two men were arrested and another more or less seriously injured as the result of an altercation between a number of free labourers and striking slaughtermen outside the Carterton Hotel yesterday afternoon. An argument developed in the bar of the hotel and the participants adjourned to the street to settle the dispute. Blows were freely exchanged and a Maori free labourer received injuries that will keep him from work for several days. The police soon arrived and arrested a free labourer and a strilcer. Both were released on bail and will later appeai' in the Magistrate's Court. Feeling has been running fairly high for the past few weeks, but this .outbrealc provides the only sign of serious trouble between the free labourers at the Waingawa works and the striking unionists.
