MR. C. H. CLINKARD EXPLAINS ATTITUDS TOWARDS ROTORUA "AN EXAMPLE TO OTHERS" Speaking to a "Morning Post" representative yesterday, Mr. C. II. Clinkard, M.P., amplified lais remarks concerning unemployment committees made to a deputation from the Relief Woidcers' Association "the " previous evening. Mr. Clinkard said that he had intended his remarks concerning the need f.or the overhaul of unemployment committees to be regarded up'on a national basis. He did not in any way iniond to cact any reflections upon the work of the local committee which, as far as he could learn, was really an example to others. His contention was, said Mr. Clinkard, that where a body of men had been in office for a number of years as had the unemployment committees there should be an overhaul right throughout thc Dominion. In many cases when they were originally eiectod these committees had bot?n appointed at scratch meetings and had siuee been still in office. He bfch.- ';d that these committees should now be elected at a meeting and that the best men available should be appointed irrespective of their class or creed. He was not inimicial to the Reiief Worbers' Associations having 0110 rspresentative on those committees who would be able to act as the spokesman of the associations. Touclfing the local committee, Mr. Clinkard emphasised the fact that thcreiief workers themselves had expressed to hina their satisfaction not only with the committee, but also with the sunervising officers and he wished to naake it quite clear that ho had nothing but praise for the committee and its work.
