— By Telegraph — Copyright).
Auckland, Thursday. The theft of over £700 of Government funds on account of the Labour Department in Auckland was discovered when this department re-open-ed after the Christmas and New Year holidays. It is stated that an official of the department presented a cheque for over £700 at a bank just before the Christmas official vacation. It was not until after the holidays that it was discovered that an unauthorised sum had been drawn from the account. The official under suspicion has not reported for duty since the resumption of work after the holidays, and he is thought to have left the country. It is understood that a warrant has been issued for his arrest.
