POLLING TAKES PLACE ON TUESDAY JANUARY 24. SEVERAL WOMAN CANDIDATES
Rugby, Jan. 11. Nominations of candidates for the Irish Free State general election took place to-day. About 240 were nominated for 152 vacant seats. Mr. Frank Fahy, Speaker of the Dail was returned unopposed. Polling will take place on January 24. The list of candidates comprises: Fianna Fail i 100 Labour 22 Cosgraveites 85 Farm. Ratepayers' League 25 Independents 11 Of the latter, Mr. Anthony, an exmember of the Dail, definitely supports Mr. Cosgrave. Mr. James Larkln has been nominated for North Dublin, as an Independent Lahour. The women nominees include Mrs. Collins, Mrs. O'Driscoll, and Mrs. Reynolds (Cosgravian ex-members) Mrs. Redmond (widow of the late Ml\ William Redmond), Miss Pearse (whose brother Padrig was executed in 1916), and Miss Helena Concannon, the authoress. The last-named (a Fiarinaite) is contesting the National University. Although there is no organised coalition against Mr. de Valera, the Cosgraveite organiser states there will he loyal co-operation to avoid a split vote.
