N.Z. BOYS' TOUR
ROTORUA LAD WRITES OF PARTY'S EXPERIEN CES TO PARENTS A WONDERFUL TIME The first experience of the party of New Zealand schoolboys at present making an educational tour of Australia are related in letters reeeived by Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Higgins from their son, W. J. Higgins, who is the only Rotorua boy included in the party. The party of 36 hoys left Auckland by the Marama on December 23 and the writer of the letter says th'at they ran into heavy seas almost immediately. These continued for the greater part of the voyage and at one meal only himself and four of the 36 boys, braved the temptations of the luncheon table. On Christmas Day, however, all enjoyed the special menu provided and a happy time was spent. Naturally, keen competition to be the first to sight Australia was evident amongst the party and all rose early on the morning of December 97 .qi-inrl-ltr -ffov K. n m fk P> first
sight of land was seen and as the ship sailed up the harbour at Sydney the boys were struck with awe hy the immensity of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Official receptions and photographing over, the party were taken to Bondi and Coogee beaches where they enjoyed the opportunity of a swim in the surf and in the evening entrained for Canberra. Here the last letter was written, the boys being greatly taken with the beauty of Gorman House' where they were staying and anticipating with enjoyment a projected visit to the Federal Parliament Buildings.
