London, Jan. 4, The owners state that all the crew of the Atlantique wefe sayed, thbugh several wero badly burned. -* Captain Rene Seoffs, commander of the vessel, npon arrival . at Cherbourg, expressed the helief that thirty to thirty-five of the crew were asphyxiated or burned to death. He himself was isolated by flames on the bridge, but managed to get clear be^ fore it was too late. He adds: "The fire began in a first-class cabin, and spread owing to the inflamxnable nature of the fitments. The wireless room was quickly enveloped and it was impossible to send out 'S.O.SJ messages." The Ministry of Marine's latest official figures show that 229 were aboard. Eighteen are missing. The newspapers pnblish aerial pietures, showing an awe inspiring spectacle,. The burning Atlantique is listing to port belching smoke her whole length. Much of the superstructure is eonsumed and an ' overturned' lifehnoy was still hanging on the side, stern downwards.
