MANY VISITORS ADMIRE GRAND ALPINE SCENERY

Invercargill, Saturday. December was a remarkably sunny montlr in Southland. The official records show a total of 219 hours' sunshine. Twelve and thirteen hours' continuous sunshine were frequently experienced, and one the longest day fourteen hours. During the holidays over a thousand travelled on the new road skirting Te Anau, up Eglington Valley, a distance of fifty miles. Visitors are speaking enthusiastically of the grandeur of the alpine scenery. Several tramping parties proceeded over the Milford track and into the Hollyford Valley. Manapouri and Stewart Island also have. attracted many northern visitors.
