RESEARCH PARTY ™ maKE INYESTIG ATION S IN TARANAKI

-By Telegraph — Copyrlght)

Eltham, Saturday. Headed by Mr. Fred Gawith, F.R.A. Inst., a party interested in anthropological research will leave Eltham on Monday for Waikauwau on a skullhunting expedition lasting several days. In the Waikauwau locality last year the complete skeleton of an ancient Maori was recovered, and sent to Mr Skinner, lecturer in anthropology at Otago University, who suggested that a thorough investigation of the whole situation might p'ossibly establish an earlier migration than the recognised one of 1350. It will be remembered that the remains of the historic canoe Tainui were found near this locality.
