DISSATISFIED
BRADMAN'S PROTEST Rec. Dec. 30, 10.30 p.m. Melbourne, Dec. 30. Upon learning that the Board of Control had re-affirmed the playerwriter ruie, Bradman advised Associated Newspapers that he wished to honour his eontract with them, which would mean that he could not play cricket. Associated Newspapers advised Bradman to take. the field with the team, their intention being to sacrifice his service to them to enable him to play. Bradman, later in a statement said "It is only through the generosity of my employers that I am able to play. While doing so I must emphatically protest against the Board of Control being allowed to interfere with the permanent occupation of any player. To my mind, the board was never meant to have power to interfere with the business activities of players. It is certainly no encouragement to anyone to remain in Australia when such restrictions are brought in." Considerable criticism has been caused by Larwood leaving the field three times to receive attention to his boot. Altogether he was off for one hour.
