Inquiries which were made of the Railway Department to-day regarding the bridge strengthe-ning programme for the Main Trunk line show that when heavy Garrett engines were introduced several years ago, cer.tain bridges were regarded as requiring .a further margin of strexigth, and. this programme has been compieted. There has been no necessity to incur further capital expenditure on bridges as a consequence of the introduction of the K class loebmotives.
