BAKERY AWARD
AGREEMENT ARRIVED AT IN THE GISBORNE DISPUTE Gisborne, Thursda^. A complete agreement was reached in the conciliation council proceedIngs in connection with the bakery trade in Gisborne, this being the first award in that industry in the North Island in which results have proved satisfactory to both parties. The basis of agreement was the adoption of the terms of the. old award with the principal exception that a reduction of 10 per cent in wages is provided. The new rates are £5 for foremen bakers, £4 10s for journey- • men, and 17/- per eight-hour day for jobbers, or not less than 2/3 per hour for less than eight hours. Overtime is at the rate of time and a quarter for the first two hours, time and a half for the second two hours, and double time thereafter, with time and a half on holidays and 6d an hour additional for work before 4 a.m. on ordinary working days. Provision is also made for the employment of females in bakeries at three-qurters of the rates for journeymen.
