ENJOYABLE PARTY A popular Opotiki couple, Miss Loma Cave and Mr. Norman Webb, who are to he married in January, were the guests at a very jolly kitchen evening given In their honour in the Parish Hall on Monday night. Dancing occupied the greater part of the evening, Mrs. Bennett and Mr.

S. Pearce, of the Semla Orchestra, supplying the music, with extras by Mr. C. Cave. During the evening Mr. E. Boyce sang "You Will Remember Vienna," and "I Bring a Love Song," as an '•ncore, Mrs. C. Cave accompanying. Mr. K. Cohen eontributed violin solos which were heartily encored. A eompetition was won hy Miss t>oy Kelly. After supper had been served the iiev. N. F. Benham said it was his honour and privilege to present the guests of honour with the gifts that had been brought that evening and to wish them the happiest of times in their married life. Mr. Webb, on behalf of Miss Cave, then thanked all those present for Ihe enjoyable evening and for the fine and serviceable gifts. Miss Elaine Cave then made a presentation of a bouquet of sweet ueas and carnations. "For They're Jolly Good Fellows" and "Auld Lang- Syne" concluded the happy evening. Kelly (white georgette), B. Kelly (blue tafleta), E. Cave (lemon georgette). Charge of Theft. A Maori, Morehu Tulcaki, aged 23 years appeared in the Magistrate's Court at Opotiki on Monday charged with stealing goods valued at £5/12/6 including eash £4/12/6 from Moeku Anaru. Accused was remanded to appear on Wednesday, December 21. Gtrde Pscnic. The Opotiki Girl Guide Company together with the Waimana Girl Guide Company held a picnic on the Waiotahi Beach on Saturday. The timo passed quickly in games and competitions. After surfing most of the morning, the guides lit fires and cooked their own meals and all sat around in camp style to enjoy them. Christmas Appeal Captain G. R. Thompson, of the Opotiki Salvation Army has launched a special Santa Claus appeal, the >bject of which is to provide toys for the children of the unemployed of the district during the festive season.
