The report of the activities of the building committee are hereby submitted. Clearing of Section "After an inspection by the building committee the site chosen for the.. „ building is on -the corner of Amahou and Fenton Street with the main entrance on the corner of the said streets. At a subsequent meetirig it was decided that one large pine tree- left on the section be removed as it was thought diffieult-y would be experienced in falling it after the building was erected. The insiructions were given to tbe architect to direct the eontractors to remove the tree at a cost of not more than £4 10/- and these instructions , have been carried out. Inspection of t'le section reveals that the work is progressing satisfactorily. Building "The architect submitted plans and specifications of a building and after p erusal of the plans it was unanimcugly decided to approve of them. "Instructions were then given to the architect to call for tenders in o*der to gain information relative to the cost of the building and the ^ following tenders were received. -It ; was decided to call for alternative tenders for the erection of the exi erior walls of the back portion of the building- in wood and steeltex. - ' Concrete Steeltex £ £ * R. Tr - Lodge, of Rotorua, be accepted." U .
Advantages of Concrete - In conneetion with the report it was explained by the president that the building committee recommended , the acceptance of G. T. Lodge's tender of £2539 for the erection of the building in concrete as the committee considered that such a strueture would he more satisfactory than the use of Steeltex. Lighting was not included in the pi-ice, but the tender embraced the f encing of the frontage with a six foot corrugated iron fence and the side and hack of the section with barbed wire. The plastering of the interior walls of the mgin hall and certain rooms was also not provided for. This work would .cost roughly an additional £200 but the committee did not consider this work necessary at present. Mr. H. W. Beale asked if there was any reason why the work of plastering these walls could not be carried out immediately. The chairman : The committee were instructed to keep the entire cost within a limit of £3000 and had therefore allowed a margin for other expenses including clearing the *secr tion and architects's fees. Mr. Beale: As a revenue producing hall we want to make it comfortable. Mr. J. M. Roberts: After all other costs are taken into account there' will be only £150 left for necessary furnishings and expenses. The president considered that for show purposes the building in its unfinished state would be all that is required at present and that the justification for its completion would be the amount of revenue received froin private- use. A resolution moved by Mr. C. Burrows that the committee's report be adopted and that the tender of Mr. G. T. Lodge, of £2539 for the- erection of the building in concrete- be accepted, was passed unanimously. Mr. J. Denyer was the seconder. It was decided to refer the question of tenders for electric lighting to the building committee with power to act, and extend the closing date.*-»
