OPIUM DEN
~ CHINESE AGAIN FOUND ON RECENTLY RAIDED PREMISES POLICE SURPRISE SMOKERS Auckland, Sunday. A house in Grey's Avenue, occupied by Chinese, wbich was raided by the police a little more than week ago, was again raided this afternoon. Eiglat Chinese were arrested, while a quantity of opium, several pipes and a number of accessories were seized by the police party, which comprised Acting-Detective Wilson, who took part in the previous raid, and several constables. The party went quietly to the house shortly after 2 o'clock. The biiilding, an old two storey wooden structure, was not barricaded, but it was found necessary to force the back door with an iron bar.
As soon as the door was opened some constables rushed in. No one was on the ground fioor, but in a smal). upper room, almost devoid of furniture, eigbt Chinese were found seated about the floor. The remainder of the police party then went up the stairs which comprised the only aceess to the room. On the occasion of the previous raid, two Chinese jumped from the window, one being slightly injured. In the room were found pipes, lamps and other accessories, which were seized and removed. None of the Chinese offered resistance to arrest.
