THEFT CHARGES
YOUNG OPOTIKI NATIVE ADMITS ROBBING FATHER MONEY PUT IN BOOT _ (rom Our Own Correspondent.) 4 Chargeu with stealing £3_odd from P. Tamati, Thomas Tamati, aged 19, appeared before two Justices of the Peace at Opotiki on Wednesday. and pleaded guilty . Gergeant Miller stated that the j youth had been wandering round the | country for some years and living with I various Maoris. Reeently he had re- i turned home where he had raided his father's cash box and taken £3 odd. Another Maori had chased him and when h'e was caught the money was found in his boot. In answer to a question from the Bench, the boy said that he had been working for one man but had not received any wages. The interpreter explained that the boy had been' left to he brought up by his relations. After the relative;; had been communicated with by telephone, the Bench decided to place the accused on probation for twelve j months. They instructed the interpreter to explain to the boy that he wa3 to rernain with' the man to whom ha was being sent and that he was under the charge of the sergeant of police and his employer.
