Sydney, Dec. 18. Civing evidence before the Royal Commission on taxation, Mr. McMahon, State Income Tax Commissioner, disclosed the effect of the depresslon on the number of taxpayers in New South Wales and the amount of tax assessed. Mr. McMahon's figures showed that in 1928 the number of taxpayers was 140,578 and the amount of the tax £8,282,461. Compared with 81,362 taxpayers and £3,026,890 amount of tax assessed in 1931.
