EXPORT OF POULTRY

(Press. Assn.-

RETALIATION SUGGESTED AS REASON FOR BAN

— By Telegraph — Copyrlght).

Rec. Dec. 13. Ottawa, Dec. 12. A proposal to prohibit the importation into Canada of poultry from Australia as made by the Poultry Committee of the British Columbia Poultry Conference to Mr. William Atkinson, British Columbia Minister of Agriculture, may be in the nature of a retaliatory measure, so it was stated by the Dominion Department of Agriculture to-day. The British Columbia conference is seeking an embargo against Australian poultry because of the presence of the Newcastle disease in some parts of that country. The Department of Agriculture here states that Australia has put into effect ari order prohibiting the entry of poultry from North America into the Commonwealth because of infectious bronchitis. No intimation is given as to what action is likely if the British Coluxribian resolution is forwarded to the Dominion's Government.
