KEEPING CARS
Some people buy a new car nearly every year. This may be fairly extravagant, for, as is well known, to do so involves a substantial loss on the amount of depreciation each time a change is made. On the other hand, the purchaser enjoys a continuous use of the very latest models, and almost complete avoidance of the bills for repairs and overhauls which are inevitable from time to time when a car is no longer young. At the other end of the scale are those who bought a good, sound car years ago, and intend to run it until it will no longer give useful service. They may have to buy a new set of tyres occasionally, or to purchase a new hood; 01* undertake a repaint; but they reduce the cost of depreciation to a minimum by spreading it over a number of years. It would be really interesting to know how many years, on an average, a car remains in the possession of its . original owner.
