BULLOCK AT LARGE
CHASES DRQVERS AND BREAKS WORKMAN'S LEG. Melbourne, Saturday. A wild bullock, which was being imtrucked with a mob of cattle at the Flemington saleyards a few days ago, brolce away and chaxged everything in its path. It jumped several fences and charged a gang of workmen. One man was lcnocked down and one of his ' legs was fractured. The bullock was finally shot. About 2.30 p.m. 'a consignment of bullocks from Bomen Station, near 1 Waggia, was;, being herded out of trucks I on the Felmington siding, hefore being driven into the sale p'ons. The cattle were wild, having recently heen mustered from the scrub. One of them, a large white bullock about six years old, rushed madly from its truck and charged a group of men in the railway yard. They managed to 'elude it. The bullock ran through several gates with the drovers in pursuit. When the drovers had almost reaeheed it, the bullock jumped the fence beside the railway track. It leaped the fence on the other side, and ran wild in Homebush Crescent. A numher of people in the street ran to safety when they saw the maddened animal. It' charged across the street and ran into Airy Park, where a gang of workmen was wolking on a drain. The infuriated animal rushed stradght at them. They scattered in all directions. Mr. Edward Champion, aged 50, of King Street, Enfield, was unable to get out of the hullock's path, and he was knocked down. In the meantime the drovers arrived and managed to subdue the animal 'and keep it at hay. Mr. Champion was taken to the hospital. The bullock continued to charge the drovers' horses, and they decided to have it killed before any further damage was done. The heast was thereupon shot.
