KOUTU WATER
IRREGULAR SUPPLY DIFFICULTY WITH HIGH LEVELS WILL BE OVERCOME BY NEW PLANT NEW BOOSTER PUMP The shortage of water at Koutu is causing some discontent among the residents of that portion of Rotorua. One householder told a "Post" repre- ! sentative yesterday that it was imI possible to get enough water to boil ! the kettle on Wednesday evening. This is not a new development as I the main supply is not large enough to ensure a full service to the higher levels. Mr. L. J. Bayfeild, the district m-anager of the Tourist Department, has recognised this position for a long time and has made frequent representations on the subject to headquarters. As a result of his efforts £1000 is being sp'ent upon the installation of a new engine at the Hemo Gorge to boost the supply. It is anticipated that this will largely overcome the. existing difficulty, but the plant will not be in operation until the end of January. In the meantime the small temporary boosting plant will again be installed at the Utuhina Stream. It has been again hired and is uow on its way from Auckland.
