ONE BAD PATCH upon new GISBORNE-OPOTIKI ROAD

— By Telegraph — Copyrlght}.

Gisborne, Thursday. Expectations that the new scenic motor route, from Opotiki round the East Cape to Gisborne would be opened for traffic during the holidays have not heen realised. The Automohile Associafcion's patrol, who has just completed an inspection of the- road, advises that, with the completion of the bridge at Kereu, an all-weather road has heen provided from Opotiki to Raukokore, though loose metal from Takaha onwards neeessitates careful driving. The construction of the Raukokore Bridge has been commenced, but it will not be completed in time for holiday traffic, and as the crossing is over awery soft road which has not been open for through traffic this summer, and as the northern end of the road between Whangaparaoa and Hicks Bay is in a dangerous condition, the avoidance of it is recommended.
