WOMAN KILLED

SHOCKING LEVEL CROSSING ACCIDENT NEAR MATAMATA STRUCK BY EXPRESS
Hamilton, Thursday. A shocking accident occurred between Matamata and Waharoa shortly before mid-day to-day, resulting in the death of Mrs. Ada Yiolet Sharpe, of Matamata, aged 56 years, who was killed instantly through being struck hy the Rotorua-Auckland express. Mrs. Sharpe, who was the wife of Mr. Peter R. Sharpe, a farmer, of Waharoa Road, was apparently about 1o cross the line about a mile and a-half from Matamata, when the accident occurred. She stepped suddenly out of the fern at the side of the iine, right in the path of the express. The driver was unable to avert the accident, and when the train was pulled up the woman was found sliockingly mutilated. A doctor and the Matamata police were summoned, and the hody was taken to Matamata. The express was delayed for 17 minutes.
