NO CUP RACE TAUMARUNUI FIXTURE SEES PREP ARATION S FOR ELLERSLIE. PROSPECTS FOR TO-DAY. (Notes by "Canard.") The Taumarunui Racing Club at one time appeared to he in for a had time at its annual race meeting today and to-morrow, hut it has heen done at least one good turn hy two Auckland owners. On the original card for to-day tliere were eight events, but when the acoeptances closed last Monday night there were only three left in the Taumarunui Cup, two belonging to one owner. The sportsmen concerned met the wishes of the club and withdrew their horses, so that for the first time for very mapy years thje Taumarunui Cup does not figure on this season's programme. The stake money saved thereby, £85, will prove exceedingly helpful to the club in these hard. times. Fair fields will he seen in the seven events to he run to-day, opening with the Trial Plate. ^Kanapa's fine run into second place hehind Merry Lap the first day at Te Rapa proves that he is the one for' the opposition in the Trial. King Win reads hest in the second event, the Taringamotu Hack. A Hurdles DueL The Manunui Hurdles promises to be a duel between Arcade and Welcome Boy, with Emancipation thrown in to make it interesting. Arcade beat all but Prinee of Oranga over the sticks the first day of the recent Waikato meeting, the latter getting up in the last stride to deprive him of the stake. Arcade will ihe all the better for that experience, for it was his first run for a long time. Welcome Boy had his first couple of races over battens at the same meeting, and finishing third the first day he improved sufficiently to pay second dividend the next time, only being beaten by a neck. Welcome Boy goes fast and that may stand him this afternoon over the flimsy fences at Taumarunui. Miss Lorraine has shown a lot of speed in her races and the five furlongs Matapuna Hack will suit her if she is ever to win a race. Limex won ' with such ridiculous ease the first day at Takapuna that it is hard to see her getting beaten to-day in the Matiere Hack. She reads one of the best things of the day. The Sprinters. The position in the Rangaroa Flying Handieap is dominated hy the bracketed pair, Flying Px'ince and Princess Bede, this pair being two of tho.se left in the Cup. Royal Ruler may not be able to give the former any weight, but he may he the next best. Miss Lorraine .and Holly Holm are also minor possibilities. To-day's card concludes with the Owhango Hack, and if reserved, Lord Willonyx should very nearly win, for he is very well and he sho'wed up in much better company at Takapuna. Well fancied candidates down to compete to-day are the following: — Trial Plate. — Kanapa, Chang, The Pullet. Taringamotu Hack. — King Win, IIluminelli, Rose Lupin. Manunui Hurdles. — Welcome Boy, Arcade, Emancipation. Matapuna Hack. — Miss Lorraine, Kahau, Kanapu. Matiene Hack. — Limex, Holly Holm, King Win. Rangaroa Flying. — Flying Prinee, Royal Ruler, Miss Lorraine. Owhango Hack. — Lord Willonyx, Welcome Boy, Illuminelli.
