NAPIER WOOL SALE
(Press. Assn.-
firm rates maintained by full bench of buyers CLIP IN GOOD CONDITION
-By Telegraph — Ceg_v rigtxt>.
Napier, Tuesday. The first wool sale of the season in Napier was held this afternoon and evening, continuing to a late hour. A total catalogne of 29,000 bales was submitted to a full bench of buyers representing Bradford, the Continent, Japan and local operators. Competition was keen from the outset, the French section being especially keen, but the German section was much quieter than at the Auckland sale, this being aceounted for by reason of the fact that Hawkes Bay wool is not so suitable for German requirements. The Japanese were keen competitors for all wool suitable for their requirements, and Bradford kept picking up lots of required types. The wool opened up in very good condition, the clips this season being better grown and more robust than last year. Included in the offering were quite a number of super wools, and for this competition was animated and good priees were realised. Prices on the early catalogue were a shade firmer than those ruling at Auckland last week, ordinary types made about the same, and bellies and pieces and necks were firm. As the sale progressed the prices were rather more erratic and lower qualities were generally cheaper. . No ofiicial range is available to-night.
