FAST RIDING BY VISITOR AT WESTERN SPRINGS SPEEDWAY

Auckland, Monday. Two records were hroken and two more equalled by members of the visiting English broadsiders at the Western Springs Speedway to-night. The most successful rider to break one record and equal two others was W. Phillips. His attempt to lower the one mile record of 77 seconds, held by T. Farndon, was 2-5 of a second slow, but later in the race, he equalled Farndon's speed, and in one lap of the same race equalled A- Mattson's record of 18 4-5seconds. Covering four laps in 77 seconds from a rolling start in the race, he broke the existing race record by 2-5 of a secOnd. The other outstanding rider was N. Key, who covered four laps in 1 minute 21 1-5 seconds from a standing start; also a record. The track was in excellent order and the races were the fastest seen on the track. The following are the results: — Match race: W. Philiips, 1; T. Stevenson, 2; E. Gregory, 3. Time 1.17 2-5. Speedway Handicap: E. Gregory. Time 1.20 1-5. Local Handicap : W. Phillips, 25ydsbhd, 1; C. Morgan, 15yds bhd, 2Time 1.26 2-5. Plaza Handicap: W. Phillips, 1; T. Stevenson, 2. Time 1.17 3-5.
