CGNCILIATION PROCEEDINGS BROUGHT BEFORE COURT

Wellington, Tuesday. Conciliation proceedings in the dispute between the New Zealand Federated Builders and Contractors Industrial Association and the Amalgamated Society of Garpenters and Joiners commenced to-day on a Dominion basis before the Conciliation Commissioner, Mr. W: Newtofi. Mr. W. T. Mountjoy appeared as the empioyers' advocate and Mr. T. Bloodworth appeared for the employees. Reductions in wages for carpenters and joiners and joiners' machinists to 2/- an hour were asked by the empioyers while the employees asked for the old award of 2/31 an hour. It was agreed that workers responsible for carrying out work and who gave .inati'uetions to workers should receive not less than 1/- a day extra. The empioyers asked for a 44 hour week and the employees for a 40 hour w*eek. The argument is proceeding.
