OPOTIKI PLAYERS HAVE VICTORY OVER TANEATUA

During a week-end the inter-club match between tha Opotiki and Taneatua clubs took place at Taneatua and resulted in a comfortabla win for Opotiki by 11 matches to five. Several of the matches were keenly contested and were closer than the I scores indicated. In the match between Misses B. Peebles and. C. Larmer, the leading ladies, the contest went the full three sets. Long rallies and bright exchanges characterised the play, and both ladies gamely fought out the contest. Miss Peebles quickly settled down to her game and captured the first set and also led comfortably in the second. Miss Larmer, however, came on to her form and won six games on iend, to taka the second set. In the third and final set she led 5-4 but again slumped, and Miss Peebles, finishingly strongly, won the ■ next two games and the deciding set, thus securing a meritorious victory 6-2, 4-6, 6-5. The Taneatua ladies proved to be too strong for the visitors and won all their matches excepting the sirigles between Misses Semmens iand L. Bennett, which was won by the latter. In all the otber matches the Opotiki players gained the deci'sions. Taneatua was not, however, represented by its full .representative team, the Peebles brothers and other leading players not being available. During the afternoon refreslimentF were dispensed by the home ladies. The results are as follows, Taneatua players being named first: Ladies' Singles Miss B. Peebles v. Miss Larmer, 6-2, 4-6, 6-5; Miss L. Peebles v. Miss F. Sydenham, 6-1, 6-0; Miss J. Reid v. Miss E. Fleming, 6-1, 6-5; Miss E. Semmens v. Miss L. Bennett, 5-6, 5-6. Ladies' Doubles Misses B. and L. Peebles v. Misses C. Larmer and Sydenham, 6-2, 6-2; Misses J. Reid and Semmens v. Misses Fleming and Bennett, 6-5, 6-4. Men's Singles T. Hammerton v. G. Murray, 1-6, 2-6; A. Campbell v. T. Kururangi, 2-6, 1-6; P. Cohu v. J. Riddle, 6-5, 2-6, 2-6; J. Old v. J. Harriman, 6-5, 5-6, 0-6. Men's Doubles Messrs Hammerton and Campbell v. Kururangi and Riddle, 4-6, 3-6; Cohu and Old v. Murray iand Harriman, 2-6, 1-6. Combined Doubles Campbell and Miss B. Peebles v. Murray and Miss Larmer, 3-6, 2-6; Hammerton and Miss L. Peebles v.
