Auckland, Sunday. Rain showers resulted in a small attendance at the Western Springs speedway last evening when the first broadsidmg meeting of the season was held. The most prominent visiting rider, Eric Langton, world champion, was injured on his first appearance, but the other visitors, Tiger Stevenson, W- Phillips, N. Key, R. Tauser, and" G. Gregory, rode well, as did A. Mattson, Dominion champion. The state of the track resulted in. the times being slow. The following are the results: — • Teams Race: N. Key (B*team) 1; I. Stevenson (B team) 2; N. Key (A team) 3. Key rode well to make the best time of the evening. Time 1.18 1-5. Welcome Stakes: W. Phillips, 1; R. Tauser, «2; A- Mattson, 3. An easy win for. Phillips, who finished 50 yards ahead. Time 1.19 1-5. Springs Plate: R. Tauser, 1; W. Phillips, 2; G. Gregory, 3. A very close finish, Tauser winning hy a length. Time 1.20 1-5. Summer Handicap: M. Silich, limit, 1; D. Mattson, 15yds bhd, 2. Time 1-27 1-5.
