LONDON'S MAYOR
SIR PERCY GREENAWAY ASSUMES NEW OFFICE. TRADITIONAL PAGEANTRY. Rugby, Wed. The new Lord Mayor of London, Sir Percy Greenaway, drove in procession from the city to the Law Courts to-day, where l»e was presented to the judges and made his statutory declaration of office. The pageant conneeted with the occasion was observed on traditional lines, and although the weather was dull and overcast, large crowds assembled to see the^ show. The main feature of the procession was a P'ageant illustrating various phases of British industry. This evening the Lord Mayor's banquet was held in the Guildhall. Several Cabinet Minister, including Mr. Stanley Baldwin, who took the place of the Prime Minister as the Government's chief spokesman, attended. With all the old-thne ritual, Alderman Sir Percy Walter Greenaway, who had been given a knighthood as one of the retiring Sheriffs, was recently elected Lord Mayor of Lon- ' don in succession to Sir Maurice J enks. Sir Percy, who is 58, is senior partner of Messrs. Daniel Greenaway and Sons, and is the third member of the printing industry elected Lord Mayor in seven years.
