Smith, came into collision on the bridge at the 14-mile peg on the Te Ngae Road on Saturday afternoon at about 4.30 o'cloek. Although several passengers were in the bus at the 1 time of th'e impact nobody Wias in- j jured; considerable damage, however, was caused to both the bus and tbe car. The latter was tbe most severely damaged and reeeived a badly crusbed mudguard, brolcen bbmper and stub-axle. The stub-axle and mudguard of the bus were also damaged. American Visitors During the past week several parties of American tourists, who arrived in Auckland by the liner Mariposa recently have been visiting Rotorua, j and have been most enthusiastic re- ^ garding the thermal wonders of tbe district. The visitors speak very I highly of tbe facilities now provided by the Matson line of steamers and consider that the luxnrious travel now available will do mucb to stimulate the tourist trade from the States to the Dominion. Hole in One Good news travels fast and there was an enthusiastic gallery to applaud sound work on the nineteenth green at Arikikapakapa on Saturday. Tbe occasion was another hole in one at the Inlet — a favourite green for this achievement — and P .Kinninmont the latest to add himself to the list of club members who have earned the honour. ,
The Great Adventure Rotorua is a growing town, but the majority of its visitors have seen much larger towns and are not awed by its proportions. To a young Maori boy who saw it for the first time last ' week, however, it w,as of almost unbelievable size and novelty. He had spent all his life (some dozen summers) in Tokaanu, and Taupo was his metropolis- He had never seen a paved road or a train in his life and although the crowds on a moderately busy afternoon in Rotorua, seem far enough removed from the city's surging throngs, to him they had all the impressiveness of vast numbers. Ow- i ing to lack of parental control, it had been decided to remove the boy from his surroundings at Tokaanu and place him with the Child Welfare authorities in Hamilton. Transferred at a moment's notice from all that I had hitherto constituted his world, he j was a bewildered child of nature, but so taken up with the glamour of the great adventure, that he had forgotten to feel sorry for himself. New Foot Bridge The new foot bridge built by the Tourist Department to provide access to the Waiotapu thermal area is now complete. Visitors will find the new strueture a great convenience for the old one was by no means ) reassuring to persons with unsteady nerves. Accident at Cricket A team of ericketers from Reporoa played a Rotorua side at the Government Grounds during the week-end and in a one-innings game won by 25 runs. Reporoa made 108 runs, but in reply Rotorua secured only 83. During the match a painful injury was reeeived by H- McGuifog, of Rotorua,- who was struck in the eye with a rising ball when wicket-keeping. Medical attention was obtained and it was found that four stitches were necessary.
