WRONG PLATES
TWO BRIVERS FINED IN TAUPO S.M.'S COURT. In the Taupo Magistrate's Court yesterday before Mr. S. L. Paterson j . ..' Wilson was charged with dnving a motor vehicle carrying last year's number plates. A charge of permitting the plates so to be used, was preferred against defendant's employ er, H. J. Skeen. Mr. Lockwood, for defendant, said that the vehicle in question had been an old lorry which had been used for carrying a parcel of films urgently required in Skeen's business. Both Wilson and Skeen had realised that the vehicle was not registered but they had no other available at the timeWilson was convicted and fined £1 with 10/- costs and Skeen £2 with similar costs. The Magistrate pointed out that the serious aspect of these cases was that if there was an accident, there _ would be no redress under the third-party insurance. A similar charge of using old number plates was preferred against a Maon named Paul M. Hapi. Defendant admitted using an old car carrying 1925 plates and said in extenuation that he had 11 children to keep and could not find the money. He-was fined £1 with 10/- costs,
