RIFLE SHOOTING
GOOD PROSPECTS FOR OPOTIKI CLUB'S SEASON ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of the Opotiki Defence Rifle Club took place last Saturday evening. There was a good attendance and the members showed great keenness to start the season with a shoot next Saturday, November 26, which will be a trophy shoot and will not count in the championship series. Several new members have joined up and the prospeets for the coming year are very bright, as most of the older experienced shots are still members and with coaching, some of the younger shots will earn their place in the club team. The balance sheet showed that the finances are in a healthy state and there is a balance in hand of £6 19s 2d against a credit of £5 at the beginning of the year. The range has been improved and is in first-class order. President N. A- Andrews won the championship with an aggregate of 441 points and rifleman H. Armstrong (the holder) was second with 432, and rifleman Thomas third with 425 points. Spoons were won by President Andrews and rifleman A. J. IIollard. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: — Patron, Mr. Geo. S- Moody; president, Mr. N. A. Andrews; auditor, Mr. E. A. Bunkall; hon. secretary, Mr. J. D- Clark; executive committee, the president, secretary, riflemen Sanders, W. Sydenham and Thomas. The championship and the spoon shoots are to be held under the same conditions as last year. The club hope to get a strong team to attend the opening of the new range of the Whakatane Club on Wednesday, November 30.
