HIDES AND SKINS
A representative catalogue of sheepskins and hides was offered at to-day's auctions. Competition was keen for both hides and sheepskins. Exporters were operating, but local tanners got the bulk of the. offering. Included in the list were some very fine lines of hides which realised full market rates. The range of prices was: — Sheepskins: — Dry: Fine crossbred, to 3id; coarse crossbred, to 3d; medium crossbred, to 3£d; half to threequarter wood, to 2£d; short to half wool, to 2£d; quarter wool, to 2d; lambs, to 3gd; pelts, to 2d. Salted: Best, 2s 6d to 2s lOd each; good, 2s to 2s 5d; medium, ls 6d to 2s. Hides : — Abattoirs : Extra heavy ox, to 4§d per 1b; heavy, to 4|d; medium, to 42d; light to 4£d. Country butchers: Extra heavy ox, 4d per lb; heavy, to 4d; medium; to 32; light to 3ild. Abattoirs: Extra heavy cow, heavy, medium, and light, all to 4 3-8d per lb. Country butchers: Extra heavy cow, heavy, medium, light, all to 4d per lb. Yearlings, to 4d; best calf, to 5d; good, to 4td; inferior and damaged, to 2£d. Tallow. — Best mixed, £16 10s; medium, £15 10s; poor, £12.
