EXPECTED TO REVOLUTIONISE HAULAGE ON THE RAILWAYS BIG ECONOMIC SAVING

Rec. Nov. 22, 11.35 p.mLondon, November 22. The Daily Mail says that in order to inspect the oil electric diesel engine locomotives, capable of drawing 900 passengers at 70 miles an hour, Mr. W. Runciman, president of the Board of Trade, visited the Armstrong Whitworth works at Newcastle. It is claimed that the installation of the engine, which is also applicable to manufacturing, will revolutionise travel and save railway companies £22,000,000 yearly. The ■ locomotives, f our of which have been ordered for the Buenos Aires railways, resemble huge aluminium hoxes. The driver, behind plate glass windows easily controls 1700 horse power by pressing the self starter and pulling a lever. The fuel cost is eightpence an hour. The engine could be utilised day and night continuously-
