ATHLETE'S SLIP BADLY INJURES A BOY

Napier, Thursday. Coneussion was sustained hy a 14-year-old hoy, Gavin Stuart this evening, when hit on the side of the head by a 101b. hammer, which had been thrown by an athlete named Campbell, when practising on McLean Park at the conclusion of the Napier Club's athletic meeting. When Campbell was about to throw the hammer, he either slipped or the hammer left hini in a direction he did not anticipate, and went toward two boys sitting on a fence 50 pr 60 yards away. Both boys were knocked from the fence. Stuart was struck on the side of the head, v/hile the other boy was struck hy the chain. The latter soon recovered, but Stuart was removed to the hospital. His condition is serious.
