Ottawa, Nov. 16. "The Department of Labour estimatcs that there are 800,000 men, women and children receivmg relief at the present thne, so Hon. W. A. Gordon toki the House of Commons to-day. Of this total it was estimated that 144,000 had not worked very steadily since 1919, while another 100,000 were what are known as "transients," 50 per cent. of whoni are recent arrivals in Canada.
