NEW LUBRICANTS

New lubricants, partncularly adapted for use in the gearbox and differental, which are undergoing tests in Great Britain, possess properties of unusual interest. A chemical compound of zinc is blended into th'e oil. In the running of the car a fine film of metallie zinc is deposited on the gears,This film has several effects; it naturally adapts itself to minute individual f eatures of the gears, making for snug fitting, and thereby minimising noise. Moreover, the relative softness of the metal also tends to damp out noise. Finally, depreeiation is minimised, because the wearing surface hecomes the zinc film and not the steel of the gears.
