SCOUT CONCERT

KING STREET HALL A large crowd attended the annual concert given by the eombined Whakatane and Taneatua troops of the Boy Scouts on Thursday evening last. The ' introductibn was a parade of scouts j on the platform; a selected numher I then sang "Rolling down to Rio" and j "What Will We Do With a Drunken Sailor;" a troop of Wolf Cubs sang "The Spdder and the Fly." The j Whakatane Scouts' athletic tahleaux j was one of the most popular items of the evening, and the -performance of ! the nine boys was distinctly ereditable. "The Tenderfoot" was ably recited by "B. Cutler." The Taneatua Troop in a short playette, "Redeeming Their Characters" pleased the audience and the Thornton Troop, in the "Awkward Squad," proved that they had been well trained. The next item was "Ben and the Booby" by Scout Hayward. Others items in the first half were: "Toy Drum Major" and a recital "The Shirker," by Scout Hapgood. The introduction to the1 second half was an instrumental item. "The Old Ash Grove" by Scout T. Fl'eetwood, followed by Scout Lines in a ' poem entitled "The Groom." The performance concluded with a short play " "Pocahoutas" performed by the Whakatane Troop. The concert was repeated on Friday evening at Taneatua and again proved highly suceessful. •
